| First Presbyterian Church has been proclaiming God's Word here at "the foot of the rapids" for over two hundred years. Early Presbyterian settlers came here from New York and New England to make a home in this swampy place. As they fashioned farms and dug canals, they gathered regularly for worship in one another's homes. They gave of what little they had and sponsored missionaries who came and preached the gospel to Native Americans living along the banks of the Maumee River until 40 years later they finally erected their church here in 1837. |
